Synergy DeepScan: Leading the Way in Whole-Body MRI
The Synergy DeepScan: Whole-Body MRI.
The Synergy DeepScan is a proprietary whole-body MRI which was developed in coordination with fellowship-trained radiologists from the University of Michigan. This scan provides detailed screening images with the goal of detecting tumors and other abnormalities early enough to make a difference and before symptoms develop. Over 1 year of research and development went into creating our MRI sequencing to optimize early cancer and disease detection.
What is an MRI and why should I get one?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans are an important screening and diagnostic tool used by physicians since 1977 – yet most people do not understand how it works.
Here’s a simplified explanation:
- Magnetization: The patient is placed inside a strong, uniform magnetic field produced by the MRI scanner. This causes the protons in the body’s hydrogen atoms, which spin randomly, to align with the magnetic field.
- Radiofrequency (RF) pulse: A brief radio-frequency pulse is then applied to the patient by the MRI machine, which pushes the protons out of alignment.
- Relaxation and Emission: Once the radio frequency pulse is turned off, the protons begin to relax and return back to their alignment with the magnetic field. In the process, they emit signals which are received by coils in the MRI scanner.
- Image creation: These signals are then processed by a computer to generate a detailed image. The time it takes for the protons to relax and the amount of signal they emit vary depending on the type of tissue, which creates contrast in the image. The differences in the signals produced helps radiologist identify multiple typesof tissues in the body.
MRI scans have been used for decades to diagnose patients who have had specific complaints such as headaches, abdominal pain, or joint pain. Recently there has been an emphasis on using whole-body MRI scans as a cutting-edge screening tool to find disease BEFORE symptoms have occurred. Synergy Longevity Centers is proud to offer this service in Michigan and the Midwest.
The fine print:
Synergy DeepScan uses no radiation and no contrast. The scan usually lasts about 60 minutes and an oral sedative is available if needed. This scan images the patient from the top of their head to right above their knees. It is then interpreted by a fellowship-trained radiologist at Regional Medical Imaging within 24 hours. The physicians at Synergy will then review the findings with the patient, answer any questions, and address any concerns that may arise. If any follow-up is needed, the Synergy physicians will help arrange the care needed.
